Puy du Fou

An excellent full day out. For children and adults of all ages.
A theme-type park with a difference. There are events going on all day. Each arena has a show lasting at least an hour. Go early, there’s a lot to see. Do as the French, take a picnic, they don’t allow picnicking in the park, but you can get a pass out, and there are several picnicking areas outside. Ask for a brochure in English if you’re not offered one, this gives the times of the different events - get to the arenas early to get a good seat. The arenas are sun- traps so take a hat (there are people selling hats) and plenty of water.
The evening event is even more spectacular and is so popular it has to be booked well in advance. It’s a long show and gets very cold; take plenty of warm clothes and a blanket, and maybe something to eat. It is worth it

Montreuil-Bellay

A very attractive old town on a hill with an equally attractive chateau.

There is a very interesting old wooden carving over the door of the bar on the left at the top end of the main street, (if you regard the chateau as being at the bottom end.) The bar was, a long time ago, an apothecary, and yes it is a monkey having a crap in a pot, the story goes it was part of a potion for the king - to rub in or eat we’re not sure!
