Doue la Fontaine

A pretty town with a very busy, good street market, each Monday.

The zoo is well worth a visit. Not caged animals, but free roaming in natural surroundings. The site is an old quarry and has been adapted imaginatively.

All the animals are endangered species that are bred to be released back into the wild and really seem contented, the viewing areas are very close to the animals. To first of all look for a Bengal Tiger, well camouflaged amongst the foliage, and then watch it walk out into a clearing to sun itself is awesome.

The rose gardens and rose water factory are close by. If you’re into roses, there must be every type planted in the gardens, you can imagine the perfume.

Marais Poitevin

(Venice Vert)

The French canals centred at Coulon south east of Fontenay-Le-Comte. The region is famous (apart from the canals) for their eel dishes and angelica, but the drink made from gentian is a matter of taste (not mine).

Japanese oriental gardens.  All these attractions are yours to enjoy on your holiday in France at our Gites

Maulevrier

An historical Japanese oriental garden full of colour, shapes and sounds.

Very peaceful walks with an  interesting assortment of Japanese plants, flowers and trees

A must for gardeners and artists
